Hyphen is a collaborative project which explores the notions of home, belonging, identity & migration. It addresses the ‘hyphenated condition’, the state of floating in-between for those that are diasporic, first/second generation immigrants, or dual-heritage.

In The Middle of Nowhere is a performance piece in collaboration with the contemporary dancer Satoko Fukuda. She expresses her personal struggles and conflicts with the cultural differences and values between her Japanese upbringing, and her life in the West.

Shot in London two weeks before Satoko was due to move back to Japan, the collaboration consists of a 16 minute full dance film, and a shorter documentary film which features segments of the dance alongside an interview with Satoko.
